Multi-car crash closed inbound Florida Keys traffic for about two hours

Southbound traffic on the 18 Mile Stretch of U.S. 1 heading into the Florida Keys was blocked for about two hours Friday afternoon because of a car crash with injuries, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash involved three cars and happened at mile marker 116, which is on the Miami-Dade County side of the highway — about four miles from the Monroe County line — according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The fire department sent two crews to the scene around 12:15 p.m. and treated several people for minor injuries, said spokeswoman Andrea Rudchenco, who added in an email, “no transtports were needed.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office issued an online alert around 2:30 p.m. that all lanes on the 18 Mile Stretch were back open.
