Florida Department of Transportation camera footage shows a long line of cars stopped before an accident scene on the 18 Mile Stretch of U.S. 1 leading to the Florida Keys Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

A car crash with injuries shut the southbound lanes of the 18 Mile Stretch leading to the Florida Keys for more than an hour on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened about 1:30 p.m. around mile marker 117, which is on the Miami-Dade County side of the highway that connects Florida City to Key Largo.

Details of the crash were not immediately available. Florida Department of Transportation traffic camera footage showed a helicopter air ambulance land on the road.

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crew took the adult patient to Jackson South Medical Center, said department spokeswoman Andrea Rudchenco.

The camera also showed a long line of cars stopped along the passing lanes, and emergency workers tending to the crash scene where the passing lanes bottleneck back to one lane.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
