Deputies swarm Florida Keys school after a student makes threats, Monroe sheriff says
A Florida Keys student made threatening statements, prompting the island chain’s sheriff’s office to increase its presence at a high school Tuesday morning.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the student, who attends Coral Shores High School in the Upper Keys, and concluded “there was no active threat,” said Adam Linhardt, the agency’s spokesman.
A criminal investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office. The student has not been named.
Keys Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in a statement the the “safety of our children is my No. 1number-one priority,” adding his department also worked with the county’s State Attorney’s Office and the Miami-Dade County Police Department on the investigation.
Linhardt said the student’s parents “have been cooperative.”
