Multi-car crash at rush hour closes U.S. 1 leaving the Florida Keys
A crash involving several vehicles closed the northbound lane of U.S. 1 heading out of the Florida Keys for about an hour Wednesday evening, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 5:20 p.m. at mile marker 107, which is at the Jewfish Creek Bridge that leads in and out of Key Largo onto the 18 Mile Stretch — the section of U.S. 1 that connects the Keys to Florida City on the mainland.
According to an alert from the sheriff’s office, at least one person was injured in the crash.
Florida Department of Transportation camera footage showed a long line of cars and trucks almost at a standstill approaching the southern end of the bridge.
Northbound traffic was reopened around 7 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
