A small plane crashed into the water off the Florida Keys Saturday afternoon, injuring one man.

The plane went down in the Gulf of Mexico off Horseshoe Key south of the Seven Mile Bridge shortly before 2 p.m., according to law enforcement sources.

A lone man was injured and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers took him to fire rescue medics waiting at Bahia Honda State Park, sources say. He was airlifted to a Miami hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The National Transportation and Safety Board will be leading an investigation into the crash, with the Federal Aviation Administration assisting.
