U.S. Coast Guard finds body of missing man last seen in the water off the Florida Keys
The U.S. Coast Guard found the body of a man last seen alive Sunday morning in the water off Key West.
The agency made the sad discovery Tuesday with the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“We’d like to express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of Mr. Rosell Ojeda,” Lt. Elizabeth Tatum, search and rescue mission coordinator for the case, said on Twitter.
Carlos Alberto Rosell Ojeda, 56, was near Fort Zachary Taylor the last time someone saw him, Petty Officer Nicole J. Groll, a spokeswoman for the agency, had said Sunday.
The Coast Guard started the search at 8 a.m., Groll added.
Asked if the missing man is a Cuban migrant, Groll said Tuesday that it’s possible but that nothing has been confirmed.
“We had a report of a person in the water,” she said.
Authorities didn’t provide additional information.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Rosell Ojeda can call the Coast Guard at 305-292-8727.
