A Queens woman accused Keys deputies of stealing. Then, they said, she bit a deputy
A woman from the New York City borough of Queens got booted from an Islamorada bar, called 911 repeatedly to report sheriff’s deputies for theft, then bit the hand that was arresting her.
That’s all according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in explaining why 32-year-old Zena Marchant, from Queens’ Corona area, was arrested on charges of resisting arrest with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, misuse of 911 and trespassing.
Marchant remained in Monroe County Jail Saturday and Sunday. Yanique Marchant, 29 and from Brooklyn, also was booked into jail Saturday morning, but only on a misdemeanor trespassing violation.
MCSO said around 2:40 a.m. at Hog Heaven Sports Bar & Grill, 85361 Overseas Hwy., a manager asked deputies to get both women out of the establishment. MCSO deputy Anfernee Rodriquez told the Marchants (their relationship isn’t clear) to leave. They did so.
But, within a few minutes, MCSO said, both Marchants were back at Hog Heaven and Zena Marchant was calling 911, telling operators that deputies had stolen Yanique Marchant’s purse. Rodriguez told Zena to stop calling 911 because deputies were there and they could help find Yanique’s purse.
“Zena Marchant continued to call 911 and ran away from Deputy Rodriguez,” the MCSO blog said. “Zena Marchant pulled away and bit Deputy Rodriguez on the hand during attempts to handcuff her.”
