Car crash shuts down U.S. 1 in the Keys on Monday afternoon

Traffic along U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys was blocked in both directions for about an hour Monday afternoon following a car crash with injuries.

The crash happened at mile marker 73.5 on Lower Matecumbe Key around 1:30 p.m, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office issued an alert to drivers along the only highway that goes through the island chain to expect delays.

The agency announced that the scene was cleared and lanes reopened around 2:30 p.m.

Details of the crash were not immediately available.
