A Key West couple was found dead. Police think it’s a murder-suicide
Two people were found dead inside their Key West home early Sunday morning in what police said is possibly a murder-suicide.
Thomas Patrick Tobin, 61, and Debra Anne Tobin, 64, were at the home in the 3200 block of Eagle Avenue, Key West police spokeswoman Alyson Crean said.
Debra Anne Tobin was found dead with several gunshot wounds in the bathroom. Thomas Tobin was found outside in a hot tub “but did not have any significant wounds,” Crean said.
“He was not shot,” Crean said Monday. “It is suspected he drowned, but the cause of death must be confirmed by the medical examiner.”
Police responded at 2:20 a.m. Sunday to the home in the island’s New Town neighborhood after callers reported hearing “a loud bang” and some neighbors fighting, Crean said.
The callers said a bullet pierced their house.
Thomas Tobin is listed as the owner of 3229 Eagle Ave., according to Monroe County property records.
He was from Lloyd Harbor, New York, and was a retired sheriff’s deputy.
Debra Tobin had worked for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in extraditions and transportation, according to her LinkedIn profile. She retired in 2017, according to that year’s MCSO annual report.
She and her husband were both hired by MCSO in 1993, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt. She retired as a detentions record clerk and he retired as a detention center deputy in Key West.
Thomas Tobin retired in 2014, Linhardt said.
Debra Tobin was originally from Brooklyn, New York, according to her Facebook profile.
