The receipt he kept detailed his crimes, cops say

Florida Keys police say a Miami man suspected in at least two burglaries kept a receipt that shows he used at least one credit card reported stolen by its owner.

Williams Alonso, 33, was arrested Sunday on three counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft, four counts of credit card fraud and petty theft. He’s in Monroe County jail on a total bond of $60,000.

A local restaurant manager in the Middle Keys city of Marathon spotted Alonso on a bus stop and called deputies because he matched the description of a photo on a be-on-the-lookout flier they were passing out, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

A responding deputy saw that Alonso wore the same clothing as a man filmed by a security camera in a recent burglary, sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt said. The deputy also learned that Alonso was wanted in connection to a recent credit-card fraud case.

Deputies questioned Alonso and found he had a wallet on him that matched one recently reported stolen.

The wallet had credit cards inside it with the name of the person who reported the wallet stolen. It also had $500 in cash inside, as well as a receipt for $43. 24. That’s the exact amount the victim’s credit card company told him was charged on the card at a local grocery story, Linhardt said.

“Detectives have been assigned to the case, and more charges against Alonso may be pending,” Linhardt said.
