He was kicked out of a bar after a fight. Then he threatened to ‘shoot up’ the place, cops say

After being kicked out of a Florida Keys bar popular with locals early Monday morning, a Missouri man threatened to shoot customers and staff, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob Holtz, 20, remains in county jail. No bond information was immediately available. He faces felony battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, possession of a fake ID and misdemeanor assault.

He was kicked out of the Brass Monkey in the Middle Keys city of Marathon shortly before 4 a.m. after fighting with several patrons, Deputy Corbin Hradecky said in his report. The fight was broken up by other customers, but Holtz continued trying to spar with other people, according to the report.

While standing outside the bar, he told the bartender that he ‘f---ed with the wrong St. Louis boy,” and repeatedly said, “I’m going to shoot this place up,” according to the report.

When Hradecky arrived at the Brass Monkey, Holtz was already outside with another deputy, who wanted Holtz treated for injuries he suffered in the earlier fights.

Since Holtz madethreats, Hradecky wanted to check him for weapons. Holtz tried pulling away from Hradecky, who had to forcefully subdue and cuff him, according to the report. Deputies did not find any weapons.

Holtz continued to violently resist deputies as they tried putting him inside a patrol car. Once inside, he cut his head while banging it on the plastic partition that separates the back and front seats, said Adam Linhardt, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Hradecky took Holtz to Fisherman’s Hospital for treatment, but he refused to get out of the car. Hradecky stun-gunned him to get him to comply, he said in his report. Deputies had to carry him inside, and he repeatedly dropped to his knees to make it harder on them, Hradecky said.

Another deputy found a driver’s license in Holtz’s pocket that turned out to be fake; that ID stated he was a year older than he is.

After being cleared by hospital staff, Holtz was taken to jail. He was placed in an isolated cell because he continued to threaten the cops, Hradecky said.
