Key Largo firefighters knock out the remaining flames of a house fire that forced a family to evacuate their home Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, 2020.

A Florida Keys family escaped a house fire uninjured early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one room, but the Buttonwood Drive home in Key Largo had heavy smoke damage, Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Bock said.

The call came in to the fire department at 6:08 a.m., said Capt. David Garrido.

The people in the house were two children, a mother and a grandmother, Garrido said. Firefighters also saved a cat that suffered minor smoke inhalation.

“We gave it some oxygen, and the cat is doing just fine,” Garrido said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
