Scooter rider airlifted after crash in Key West

A tourist was airlifted to a Miami hospital in critical condition after a crash Tuesday afternoon in Key West on the island’s main thoroughfare.

Ann L. Veum, 50, of Madison, Wisconsin, was riding a scooter near the 24 North Hotel, 3820 N. Roosevelt Blvd., at about 1:30 p.m. when the scooter collided with a silver Honda SUV, according to Key West police spokeswoman Alyson Crean.

The two outbound lanes of the boulevard were closed after the crash while police investigated.

Veum was taken by helicopter to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
