A Florida City man was hospitalized after crashing his car into a tree on the side of U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys Wednesday afternoon.

Roosevelt Johnson, 33, was listed in stable condition hours after the single-car crash that happened at 4:45 p.m. at mile marker 80 in Islamorada, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was flown by helicopter air ambulance to Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall.

According to the FHP, Johnson was driving his 2010 Dodge Challenger north on the highway when he lost control of the car.

He crossed over into the southbound lane and onto the shoulder before the front right end of his vehicle hit the tree, the FHP release stated.

Johnson was wearing his seat belt, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the FHP report.
