A man wanted for trying to kill his mother's boyfriend by bashing him in the head with a glass ashtray turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday.
He was charged with attempted murder and criminal mischief.
Adrian Rodriguez is accused of hitting a sleeping Daniel Rivero with an ashtray on May 12 in Key Largo before fleeing north.
Deputies say that as Rodriguez drove toward the mainland, he called a Miami-Dade 911 dispatcher to report that someone was bleeding from the head at 103100 Overseas Hwy., according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Keys authorities went to the scene and found Rivero.

The next morning, with detectives still on the scene, Rodriguez, 26, showd up and told them that he found the victim “on the floor of his bedroom bleeding from the head,” said Monroe sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin. “He denied hitting the victim.”
Rivero told authorities he was alone with Rodriguez in the house that night, and woke up with pain in his head.
“When he was able to stagger into the kitchen, he found two cellphones — his and his girlfriend’s — broken. He said they were not broken when he left them there the night before,” according to Herrin.
Rivero — who suffered a fractured skull and swelling on the brain — said he believes he was attacked over $550 rent that Rodriguez and his mother owed him.
Rodriguez was taken to Monroe County Jail with bond set at $76,500.
