A Keys man is accused of assaulting his mother’s cat, which was found with a bloody mouth, swelling in the eyes and a cut nose.
Timothy Kummer also hit his mother’s boyfriend, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Kummer, 29, lives with the couple in Marathon.
When his mother’s boyfriend confronted the sleeping Kummer about the bloody cat, Kummer became enraged, said sheriff spokeswoman Becky Herrin.
“The boyfriend confronted Kummer who became angry and wanted to fight. Kummer began grabbing and swinging at the boyfriend in an attempt to fight with him,” Herrin said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the mother scooped up the cat from Kummer’s chest and the animal cried in pain and could not walk, according to the sheriff’s office. Kummer had scratches on his face, chest and abdomen and clumps of cat hair in the dried blood on his body, Herrin said.
Kummer was arrested Tuesday night and charged with domestic battery and animal cruelty.
The cat was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
