Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run in North Lauderdale

A driver was arrested Saturday in a hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 41-year-old man.

Authorities said an Irish tourist was crossing the 5300 block of U.S. 441 in North Lauderdale with two friends. They were heading back from a bar to their hotel.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that 35-year-old Richard Jennings hit the tourist with his girlfriend’s black BMW X3 at around 4:55 a.m. and then fled.

North Lauderdale Fire Rescue rushed the victim to Broward Health Medical Center where he died.

An apparent acquaintance of Jennings, who saw the damaged vehicle, notified BSO.

Detectives arrested Jennings at his Hollywood home shortly after 6 p.m.
