Winning bid for ‘arrested’ ship brings stranded crew closer to home

Eleven crew members of a container ship anchored in the ocean east of Fort Lauderdale Beach Park since April are a big step closer to going back to their home countries. The North American subsidiary of a Lithuanian freight shipping company made the winning bid of $620,000 for N/V Delphinus in an auction Thursday afternoon on the steps of the United States Federal Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Baltamerican Shipping Co. outbid five other companies in the auction, which started with a minimum opening bid of $100,000.
