Tamarac teen killed after drunk driver runs red light, police say
A Tamarac teenager was killed after a drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into his car early Sunday morning, police said.
Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Nicolas Garcia, 18, was driving south in a Honda Civic on Northwest 70th Avenue when Conan Acevedo, 40, ran a red light driving west on West McNab Road. Acevedo’s SUV then crashed into the driver’s-side door of Garcia’s sedan, Broward sheriff’s deputies said.
BSO Air Rescue took Garcia to Broward Health Medical Center where he died, officials said. Acevedo refused treatment and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.18, according to deputies.
Deputies arrested him on charges of driving under the influence and took him to Broward County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
