Davie police sergeant airlifted after car accident

A Davie police sergeant was airlifted to a local hospital early Thursday after she was struck by a car on Interstate 75, officials said.

Sgt. Patricia Ravine was the officer struck and airlifted under a trauma alert, according to various messages posted on Twitter, and was reported to be in stable condition.

She had stopped along I-75 just south of Royal Palm Boulevard near Weston shortly before midnight Wednesday to help with a car that rolled over off the highway, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Richard Glass told the Sun-Sentinel.

“While she had exited her vehicle, to check on the driver of the rollover vehicle, she was walking on the western paved shoulder of the southbound lanes and she was struck by another vehicle that had traveled southbound,” Glass told the Sun-Sentinel. The driver of the car who hit Ravine was cited for careless driving, he said, and the driver of the rollover car was charged with driving under the influence.

Florida Highway Patrol was investigating, officials said. Ravine has been with the department since 2006.
