A bicyclist and a motorcyclist die in separate Oakland Park crashes

Two men — one a motorcyclist and one a bicyclist — lost their lives this week in separate crashes in Oakland Park.

The first crash happened just after 10 p.m. Monday at Northeast 38th Street and 10th Avenue.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Paul Bartholomew Kovalsky Jr., 40, of Royal Palm Beach, was riding his bicycle southbound on Northeast 10th Avenue and “didn’t heed a stop sign.”

He struck a Ford Focus that was westbound on Northeast 38th Street. Kovalsky was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the Focus, Walter Aparicio of Oakland Park, remained on scene and was uninjured.

In the second crash, a motorcyclist was killed when “he failed to stop at a red light” and hit a truck, according to BSO.

That accident happened just before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard and Interstate 95.

Damon Dague, 26, of Boca Raton, was westbound in the 1100 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard on his Honda CBR-1000F motorcycle when he struck the truck, driven by Jonathan McGlew.

Dague died at the scene. McGlew was not injured.

Both crashes are under investigation.
