Police: Thieves drive, run, swim from cops; one jumps to his death
After leading officers on a chase by car, by foot and by canal, police said one suspect in a Walgreens break-in jumped to his death.
Miramar Police said surveillance footage caught four suspects breaking into a Walgreens and stealing medicine early Friday morning. When police arrived, the people drove off, leading police on a chase. They drove south in the northbound lanes of University Dr., south of Miramar Parkway, police said, before stopping just north of Riviera Blvd.
Police said the suspects dove into a canal near Utopia Drive. Officers eventually caught them and took them to the police department. One man, who police said was Patrick Louissant Jr., gave a fake name.
When officers questioned him, he ran. The 27-year-old made it to the third floor of the parking garage and jumped. He died of his injuries at Memorial Regional Hospital.
