A car crashed under a Broward County school bus Thursday morning in Pembroke Pines, killing the driver and leaving a passenger with serious injuries.
At about 6:28 a.m. Thursday, a red 2013 Toyota Camry slammed into the bus on Pembroke Road and Palm Avenue. The bus, driven by Joseph Jean-Philippe, 49, was stopped at a traffic light headed west at 10000 Pembroke Road. The impact of the crash caused the Camry to be wedged underneath the back of the bus, according to Pembroke Pines police.
No children were on the school bus when the crash happened. Jean-Philippe was unharmed.
The jaws of life were used to remove most of the car roof and rescue a passenger, who was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver died in the car.
