Car rolls into construction crater, ejecting and killing driver
A single-car rollover crash on Monday morning killed 24-year-old Jordan Ray Denis of Cooper City and caused Interstate 75’s northbound lanes to shut down around Sheridan Street from 2:40 until after sunrise.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Denis’ 2005 Dodge Stratus left the northbound lanes into the median and hit a concrete drainage structure around 2:40 a.m. The ensuing flipping and twirling ejected Denis, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt. He died on the scene.
His passenger,22-year-old Cooper City resident Cynthia Seda, got lucky. Though also without a seat belt, she survived and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Burn Center.
Two charges of driving without a license, from October and January, were pending against Denis in Broward County court. In the last five years, Denis rolled up 11 traffic violations between Miami-Dade and Broward counties, including one for reckless driving and five for speeding.
The first violation, in 2011: driving a vehicle without a safety belt.
