Traffic crash leaves one dead, another critical in Fort Lauderdale

A car wreck in Fort Lauderdale left one person dead and another in critical condition Friday night.

Around 9 p.m., a black 2016 Kia was heading west on East Oakland Park Boulevard when it smashed into the back of a 1996 Nissan stopped at the traffic signal at North Federal Highway.

The two people in the Nissan were seriously injured and taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead and the other remained in critical condition.

Authorities did not publicly identify the victims pending notification of next of kin.

The Kia also hit two other cars, whose occupants were not seriously injured. The driver of the Kia, whom police have not identified, fled on foot after the crash before being located and transported to Imperial Point Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Fort Lauderdale Police have started a DUI investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
