When the car ahead hit the brakes, one driver swerved into the white striped side of the road, hitting a road worker Friday afternoon.

Enrique Diaz, 59, was picked up off of I-95 in Pompano Beach and taken to Broward Health North, where he died, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

The Cutler Bay man was standing in the striped, restricted area between the northbound highway lane and the entrance ramp lane to northbound I-95 from westbound Atlantic Boulevard, Wysocky said.

He was hit by Edwin Alexander Lord, a 52-year-old man from Lauderhill, who was driving a 2012 Chevy Sonic. Lord was not injured.

No arrests have been made or charges filed. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
