Half of a distraction-theft duo arrested for stealing from a 92-year-old
A man was arrested and charged with grand theft and identity theft after detectives say he was part of a duo that distracted a 92-year-old woman and snatched her wallet from her purse earlier this year, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.
Albert Robinson, 55, was arrested Monday in Alachua County and will be brought to Broward County to face his charges.
According to BSO, Betty Swanson was shopping at Publix, 10018 Griffin Rd., when Robinson's unidentified partner distracted her.
Robinson, according to BSO, can be seen on video surveillance unzipping Swanson's purse and stealing her wallet, which had $40 in cash, credit cards and her driver’s license.
The duo was caught later that day on video at Best Buy in Pembroke Pines, 11450 Pines Blvd., using Swanson's credit card to purchase an Xbox One and two Dell Inspiron computers for a total of about $1,500, BSO said.
Anyone with information is asked to call BSO Cooper City Detective Glen Gainey at 954-435-2200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
