Fort Lauderdale police investigating officer-involved shooting

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating after a police-involved shooting Tuesday morning.

The incident began just before 10 a.m. in the 600 block of Northwest 11th Avenue. According to police, an officer was investigating a suspicious person when the officer had an “encounter with a suspect.”

The officer opened fire, but the person was not hit.

Instead the person got in a car and sped away. Soon after, the fleeing driver crashed into another car at at Northwest 31st Avenue and Sixth Street. The driver then took off running, but was soon caught in the area of Northwest 29th Avenue and Fifth Court.

The person in the other car was taken to Plantation General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Charges are pending, police said.
