A man was killed and four people were injured when a Plantation house party with more than 400 guests turned chaotic late Saturday night, according to police.
At about 11:30 p.m., police received a noise complaint at 12050 NW Fourth Ct. in Plantation Acres.
That’s where a Spring Break party was being held in a five bedroom, two-story house, the Sun Sentinel reported.
As officers investigated, they heard shots “coming from the residence at which time a large number of guests rushed out of the house,” police said in a statement.
Four people, three women and one man, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with gunshot wounds.
Serge Pierre Dumas, 28, was found dead inside. Dumas, the Sun Sentinel said, was an aspiring hip-hop artist.
“He was the greatest up-and-coming artist that the world will never see,’’ Aisha Balkich, 23, the mother of Dumas' 15-month-old son Darian, told the paper. She said Dumas performed under the name Illy-Illz.
Guests told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported that the party was announced on Facebook and that partygoers paid a $5 cover to get in.
“I was freaking out, I’m fearing for my life,” a 19-year-old who didn’t want to give his name told the station. “And what I’m hearing is, I’m hearing all these shots, so the first thing I’m thinking is just try to get out.”
The house was packed with students from several area high schools and colleges and some older people, according to the Sun Sentinel, who spoke to several guests.
Officers questioned hundreds of people Sunday, the paper reported, but police were still looking for a suspect Sunday.
