A group of ponies escaped from their farm through a broken fence early Wednesday morning and ran loose alongside Florida’s Turnpike near Miramar, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The miniature horses managed to escape capture for about 45 minutes, said FHP Spokesman Joe Sanchez.

“I've corralled bulls, cows, horses, even ostriches,” he said. “But never ponies.”

Neighbor Benny Puentes told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that it turned into a “breakaway high-speed chase.”

“Luckily, I was out for a jog and saw them,” Puentes told the station.

Sanchez said they were able to get the ponies back where they belonged and no one was hurt.

“We are lucky they didn't go into the street,” he said.
