Thirteen people were rescued Monday night after their 106-foot yacht began sinking off the coast of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, according to the Coast Guard.
Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios said the Coast Guard responded after receiving a call that the motor yacht named Serena III was taking on water.
"We are not sure why it was taking on water," he said.
“It just gradually took on more and more water,” said Tim Morgan of Sea Tow.
The Coast Guard deployed a boat from the Fort Lauderdale station, a cutter and a helicopter.
All 13 people were rescued from the yacht, heading to Freeport, and no one was hurt, Rios said.
