Motorcycle accident leaves man dead

A Fort Lauderdale resident died early Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with a tanker truck in Pompano Beach.

Robert Hayes, 27, was riding his Honda northbound at around 7 a.m. on North Andrews Avenue in the far-right lane. Hayes stepped on his rear brakes when a truck that was traveling in front of him began slowing down to make a right turn into a business in the 1200 block of Andrews.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that Hayes skidded for more than 65 feet before the motorcycle fell on its right side and slid over the pavement, colliding with the truck’s trailer.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Hayes dead at the scene at 7:11 a.m.

The truck driver, Robbie Dutton, 48, was not injured.
