4 in custody after undercover police officer shot at in Fort Lauderdale
A gunman shot at an undercover police officer’s car Monday morning in Fort Lauderdale. The officer was not hit and did not return fire, according to police.
The shooting happened after 1 a.m. in the 2300 block of Southeast 17th Street. The undercover officer was “working a detail” and noticed a suspicious car driving through a residential area. The officer followed, and that’s when the shooting happened, according to police.
Fort Lauderdale officers found the car, made a traffic stop and arrested two people with guns, Detective DeAnna Greenlaw said in a statement. An additional suspect ran but was caught on foot.
Officers from Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office then set up a dragnet and found a fourth suspect trying to hide in a waterway.
