An arrest has been made in a deadly hit and run accident in Dania Beach earlier this month that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy.

Zachary Benjamins, 22, was charged with failure to remain at an accident scene involving a death, failure to stop at an accident scene involving a serious injury and tampering with evidence.

On Dec. 8, two brothers, Apollo Brown Jr., 8, and Kelvron Florence, 14, were struck at 100 Bryan Rd. while walking home from a basketball game.

The boys’ grandmother said she was going to pick them up from a basketball game at Attucks Middle School but had a flat tire. While she was waiting to borrow her neighbor’s car, the boys decided to walk home, and that’s when they were hit.

Both were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, Dec. 19, Apollo died. His brother is still in the hospital. Kelvon is awake but still hasn’t spoken.
