Hialeah man in coma, critically injured after crashing into concrete pole

A Hialeah man was critically injured after crashing into a concrete pole on University Drive early Saturday morning, Pembroke Pines police said.

Carlos Jose Bermejo, 33, was driving south on University Drive shortly before 4 a.m. when his 2012 Silver Ford Focus veered off the roadway, hit the curb on the west side of the street and rammed into a concrete pole at 300 North University Drive, causing significant damage to the car’s passenger side, according to police.

Bermejo was knocked unconscious and severely injured.

He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where “he remains in a coma in critical condition with multiple skull fractures,” according to a police statement.
