Death of Fort Lauderdale toddler sparks Broward Sheriff Office investigation

The death of a Fort Lauderdale toddler early Thursday morning has sparked a Broward Sheriff’s Office investigation.

Family members told officers 2-year-old Za’mya Williams was asleep in bed when they noticed she was unconscious. A 2:43 a.m. call from the family summoned Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, who tried to resuscitate her and took her to Plantation General Hospital. At the hospital, doctors made it official. She was dead.

Her body was sent to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy; BSO homicide detectives are investigating Za’mya’s death.
