Protestors march through Fort Lauderdale; new Miami protest planned Sunday

One day after a crowd of hundreds marched through Miami and blocked traffic on a major expressway, dozens took to the streets of Fort Lauderdale in their own protest, the Sun Sentinel reported.

An event organized by the Dream Defenders moved through Fort Lauderdale Saturday afternoon as a crowd of dozens gathered and marched to the Federal courthouse, 299 East Broward Boulevard, where they staged a demonstration. As the protest moved others on the street joined the crowd as they held signs and chanted.

The protests were similar to other #ShutitDown events happening across the country and throughout Florida in response to the recent grand jury decisions not to indict police officers for the killings of unarmed men in Ferguson, Mo. and New York. Like those events, the protest was mostly organized on Facebook and Instagram, and encouraged the crowd to be peaceful.

Another protest has been planned in Miami for 3 p.m. Sunday in Wynwood, beginning at 2520 NW Second Ave. and moving through the neighborhood.
