Motorcyclist hits concrete pole, dies in Pompano Beach

A man died Sunday morning after he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a concrete utility pole in Pompano Beach.

The crash happened about 5:50 a.m. on Copans Road. The impact sparked a fire that engulfed the motorcycle and driver, who died at the scene.

Witnesses told Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide investigators that the Suzuki motorcycle was going at a high speed before it crashed.

The motorcyclist was not immediately identified.

A baby boy was born Saturday aboard a JetBlue flight from Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale, the airline said. The airplane was called “Born to Be Blue.” Medical personnel met the plane on the tarmac.
