A man was arrested at his home Sunday afternoon after he allegedly killed a woman by running her over twice with his Dodge pickup truck in Pompano Beach.

Lawton Cohen, 53, will face first-degree murder charges for the death of Barbara “Bobbie” Sapp, 55, who died Saturday evening outside Rocky’s Food Store, 800 Hammondville Rd.

The two were arguing, and Sapp was leaning into the driver’s window when the driver moved the car forward, causing her to fall to the ground, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Cohen backed up over her, then put the truck in drive and ran over her one more time before driving away.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took Sapp to Broward Health North, where she died.

Witnesses told BSO homicide detectives that the incident appeared to be intentional.

Detectives released the surveillance images of the dark-colored truck with factory rims and a covered bed. A BSO detective in Tamarac recognized Cohen, a sex offender who requires regular checks from law enforcement.

His truck was parked on his driveway when the BSO SWAT unit went in.
