A surfer and a hungry shark clashed Monday afternoon at Deerfield Beach.
Peter Kirn, 21, was surfing when a five-foot spinner shark chomped on his foot, Broward Sheriff’s spokesman Mike Jachles told Miami Herald news partner CBS4. He was near the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier.
Kirn was with a friend, about 50 yards out in the ocean when he was bitten, CBS reported. Lifeguards with Deerfield Beach Ocean Rescue helped Kirn after he swam to shore and made it to a lifeguard stand.
The sheriff’s office said the injury was not life-threatening, and CBS reported Kirn will likely spend the night at Broward Health North.
