Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have arrested two men involved in the murder of a man whose body was found in a burning building near Fort Lauderdale this summer.

Gerardo Lemus, 23, and Staling Davis Zabala, 28, both of Fort Lauderdale, were arrested Monday in connection with the death of 38-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident Eber Dagherto Lucero.

On the morning of Aug. 2, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a fire in a duplex at 4101 SW 18th Ct. in the Broadview Park neighborhood of unincorporated Central Broward. Firefighters found Lucero unconscious in one of the home’s bedrooms and began to perform CPR.

Lucero was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where he died.

No one else was injured in the fire.

Lemus and Zabala were charged with premeditated murder and booked into Broward County’s main jail without bond.
