Fort Lauderdale police ID victim in deadly Tri-Rail crash
Fort Lauderdale police on Monday identified a driver who failed to stop for railroad crossing gates on Cypress Creek Road, was struck by a train and died Friday morning.
Jay Michael Manzo, 35, of Fort Lauderdale was driving his 2002 Mazda sedan east on Cypress Creek shortly before 7 a.m. when he failed to stop at the gates, drove onto the CSX railroad tracks and was hit by a southbound Tri-Rail.
He died at the scene.
Parts of the road and the tracks were shut down for several hours.
