A man was arrested after toxicology samples came back showing that he was “under the influence of a chemical substance” when he hit and killed a man unloading cars from a hauler in June, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.
Joshua Stein, 46, of Oakland Park was in jail Thursday charged with DUI manslaughter.
On June 23, Ivan Figueras-Pino, 37, from Southwest Miami-Dade, pulled his tractor trailer over in the 400 block of South Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach and put on his hazard lights.
After lowering the ramp, he climbed in the back of the truck and began removing the chains from a car on the top rack. That’s when Stein drove his 2015 Hyundai Accent up the lowered ramp and hit Figueras-Pino, BSO said.

At the time, detectives said it did not look like Stein attempted to swerve to avoid the truck.
Detectives said Thursday that multiple cans of inhalants and prescribed medications were found inside the vehicle.
According to BSO, Stein had one prior DUI conviction in May 2004.
