Homestead man killed trying to flag down help on U.S. 27 in Weston
A driver who ran out of gas on U.S. 27 was struck and killed early Sunday as he tried to flag down a passing motorist to ask for help, authorities said.
What the Broward Sheriff's Office called in a news release “the horrifying ordeal’’ was witnessed by a friend of the victim who was also trying to attract the attention of passing motorists after they found themselves stranded at about 3:37 a.m. They had run out of gas.
Killed was Francisco Mendoza, 21, of Homestead.
