Tri-Rail train hits car in Oakland Park. One dead, officials say

One person is dead after a Tri-Rail train struck a car that was crossing the tracks in Oakland Park on Wednesday morning, the city’s Fire Rescue department said.

The train was traveling southbound on the CSX freight tracks west of Interstate 95 around 10 a.m. when it collided with the car, said Shannon Vezina, spokeswoman for the city of Oakland Park.

The person inside the car was killed, Vezina said, adding the crash is under investigation by Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic-homicide detectives.
