Coral Springs police swarm neighborhood after fatal shooting

A Coral Springs neighborhood was swarmed by law enforcement early Thursday morning as officers investigated a fatal shooting.

Shortly before 3 a.m., the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a shooting call at the 2500-block of Riverside Drive. Officers found a man dead from a gunshot wound.

Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami reported a body on the ground covered with a tarp. Residents of the area told the station they heard gunfire in the area.

Officers were heard on police radio traffic saying the victim is a 25-year-old man who was shot in the pool area of an apartment building at the 2500 block of Riverside Drive. Shell casings were found, and witnesses told police that the shooter ran away from the area, according to the scanner.

K-9 and tactical units, as well as officers from the Margate Police Department, swarmed the area looking for the gunman, radio traffic confirmed.

Somerset Academy, a K-8 charter school, is closed for the day due to the investigation.
