A 22-year-old man has been charged for fatally running down a woman with his car and then taking off, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, April 8, around 12:20 a.m. near the 4400 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue, investigators say Khaleel Carey was driving northbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue in a 2016 Nissan Maxima when he struck Donna Ramsey, 63, who was crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk.

Deputies say Carey did not stop. BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded, but Ramsey died at the scene.

Investigators found the Nissan Maxima and identified Carey as the hit-and-run driver. He’s charged with one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and one count of failing to stop and or remain on scene of an accident involving death.
