Detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed an 81-year-old woman last week in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Antoinette Biamonte, of Coral Springs, died at a hospital after the March 30 crash at the intersection of West Copans Road and Northwest Third Avenue, BSO said.

According to the preliminary investigation, Michelle Tampellini, 35, of Deerfield Beach, was driving a 2022 Jeep Wrangler west on West Copans Road toward the intersection.

Teresa Masone, 56, of Pompano Beach, was driving a 2011 Lincoln MKS east on West Copans Road at the same time, according to BSO. Biamonte was seated on the front passenger side.

When both cars entered the intersection around 12:55 p.m., Tampellini turned left directly into the path of the Lincoln, BSO said. Tampellini’s Jeep collided with the front driver’s side of the Lincoln.

“Investigators say the impact caused the Jeep to rotate counterclockwise and roll southeast towards the sidewalk,” BSO said. “The Lincoln was redirected in a southern direction and came to final rest facing south in front of the northbound lanes of Northwest Third Avenue.”

The occupants of the Lincoln, Masone and Biamonte, were taken to Broward Health North while Tampellini remained on scene.

Later that day, Biamonte died from injuries sustained in the crash, BSO said. The investigation is ongoing.
