Who is Stephen Bowen, the husband accused of killing Coral Springs vice mayor?
Stephen Bowen, the husband of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, was arrested Wednesday, charged with shooting and killing her inside the couple’s home.
Those who knew the couple told the Miami Herald there were no glaring red flags, and records for Bowen don’t show any violent criminal history.
Coral Springs police officers discovered Metayer Bowen’s body inside the couple’s home Wednesday while performing a welfare check.

Here’s what we know about Bowen, who now faces charges of premeditated murder and tampering with evidence:
- Bowen was certified as a radiologic technologist in 2014, according to state licensing records, and works at Delray Medical Center, his arrest report said. He is also the CEO of Men of St. Luke Inc., a Hollywood-based nonprofit, business records show.
- He was involved with a Masonic Lodge, called The Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge of Florida, and a competitive shooting club, social media posts show.
- On his Instagram, he shared a video in October 2022 showing him at a gun range and boar hunting with a rifle and a spear.
- The couple married in 2022 in Broward County and bought the house where Metayer Bowen would later be found dead the following year, records show. Sources told the Herald they were high school sweethearts.
- Bowen’s criminal history is limited to a few misdemeanor charges, including one for possession of cannabis from 2009 that was dismissed, and various traffic violations, according to public records.
- It’s unclear if police had previously been called to the home regarding domestic violence or anything else. The Coral Springs Police Department denied the Miami Herald’s public records request for prior calls for service, saying it was now part of the active investigation in light of Metayer Bowen’s death.
- Metayer Bowen frequently posted photos with her husband on Facebook, describing their deep love for each other and how they supported each other in hard times. “There’s a special kind of joy that comes with living in my purpose, feeling anchored by the love of my incredible husband Stephen Bowen, the unwavering support of family, cherished friendships, and a community that continuously uplifts me,” she wrote in September 2024.
- Democratic state Rep. Marie Paule Woodson, a close friend of Metayer Bowen, told the Herald that Bowen was quiet and not the type to approach people, but was approachable and engaging once in conversation. ”We have met the husband several times. Me and my husband, every function that we go to; sometimes they sit with us. We talk. I never, never had a clue that something like that would have happened,” she said.
