Pedestrian struck, killed by Brightline train in Fort Lauderdale, police say
A pedestrian was struck and killed Sunday by a Brightline train in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
Fort Lauderdale police officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to the 700 block of North Andrews Avenue for a “Brightline train versus pedestrian incident,” department spokesperson Casey Liening said.
Officers found a dead adult, who was not identified by police, when they arrived.
The train is running, and vehicle traffic is not affected, Liening said. Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the person’s death.
More than 200 people have been struck and killed since Brightline began test runs in 2017, according to a Miami Herald/WLRN investigation. The vast majority were on foot.
Sunday’s death is the 72nd Brightline fatality in Broward County, and the fourth in Broward this year. A spokesperson for Brightline did not immediately respond Sunday to a request for comment.
